Can you help Ukrainians in Bradford on Avon?

Bradford on Avon's Ukrainian community is now over 100 strong, with members established in local jobs and schools.

Ukraiimans are being hosted by dozens of households in the town and nearby villages.

Some are working in local businesses while others are self-employed. Children are attending St Laurence, Christchurch and Fitzmaurice schools. Ukraimans have held regular weekly meetings, organised social events and run a celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day in Westbury Gardens where they served borscht soup and other traditional fare.

But more help is needed as initial six-month sponsorships come to an end.

"Bradford on Avon has been very good to Ukrainian people," said one of the guests, Vika Mazur, "We have received so much kindness and we want to make a positive contribution to this beautiful town."

Local host Felicity Courage added: "People have been incredibly generous. But we now urgently need more support, particularly from anyone who would consider hosting. Many of us have found it to be a great experience that has provided friendship, camaraderie and the understanding that you're making a huge difference in someone's life by being a place of safety and support."

How you could help in 2023

You can support the Ukrainian community by:

  • Hosting a family or individual for six months or more

  • Renting out a property or a room

  • Helping Ukrainian people who want to rent property or start businesses

  • Transporting people who need lifts
